Why Didn't They Ask Evans by Agatha Christie Review - So Disappointing

I am usually satisfied with a good Agatha Christie mystery. Especially Miss Marple. Poirot is not my favorite, but I still find the stories in which he is featured to be enjoyable. This book, Why Didn't They Ask Evans?, not so much.

The book starts off well enough with one of the main characters Bobby Jones happening upon a body while he was playing golf. The man had fallen off of a cliff. Bobby heard the scream and was able to make it him and before the man died he pondered the question "Why didn't they ask Evans?". To add further to the mystery the now dead man had a photo of a beautiful woman in his pocket. A photo that later turns up missing at the inquest. Bobby is determined, along with his female friend Frankie, to find out what happened to the man and the photo.

All of this seemed to be the recipe for a very good mystery. However, I found the characters to be a bit dull and uninteresting. Moreover, they came upon their conclussions in a very speculative way. I confess that the only reason that I finished the book is that I too wanted to know why they didn't ask Evans. But in the end, I could have done well with not reading the book at all.

Rating: ★★
